Scrollytelling on Biodiversity
For the Leopoldina – National Academy of Sciences – we developed an interactive scrollytelling experience that makes complex scientific content on biodiversity accessible. The website „15 Answers to 15 Questions on Biodiversity“ combines scientific precision with an emotional, visual narrative style. Across 15 chapters, key questions on species diversity are answered using interactive infographics, large-format nature photography and clearly structured text. The goal is to make knowledge tangible – for experts and a broad, interested public alike.
Task
Prepare scientific content on biodiversity so that it can be communicated in an understandable, visually appealing and interactive way.

Development of a scrollytelling concept with 15 chapters, interactive infographics and a visual world inspired by natural structures and colors.

Making Complex Knowledge Accessible – Raising Awareness
The website presents complex scientific content on biodiversity in a clear, visually appealing form. The goal was to prepare knowledge so that it reaches experts and laypeople alike – through an interactive, visually supported presentation that fosters understanding and strengthens awareness of biodiversity.
Between Closeness and Distance – The Aesthetics of Biodiversity
The storytelling format „15 Answers to 15 Questions on Biodiversity“ combines scientific content with a thoughtful, emotionally engaging design. Its foundation is an atmospheric visual world that uses high-quality nature photography and vivid graphics to make the diversity of biodiversity visible. Expansive aerial landscape shots meet richly detailed close-ups, creating a compelling interplay between distance and proximity.
Visual Structure with Ease
The typography is modern and clear, subtly interacting with graphic patterns reminiscent of biological structures, creating a connection between content and design. The result is an interplay of text, image and form that conveys scientific context without losing its lightness. More than 20 visualizations guide readers through the 15 chapters, with an average dwell time of around five minutes.
